Meet Jeremy

I have been a Pickering resident all my life, and I am officially running for City Council in Ward 1.

I’ve spent my entire life learning how to navigate systems to find real wins for everyday people. While studying Political Science & Philosophy at Brock University, I ran advocacy campaigns, was elected twice to the University Senate, and organised a coalition that built policy platforms to advocate directly to the Ontario government on how best to serve students.

Moving into the workforce, my compass always pointed toward community. As a fundraising coordinator for Diabetes Canada, I managed major charity events and connected local clubs and businesses with vital support systems. Later, working in telecommunications at Rogers, I learned what it truly means to serve people. In an industry known for corporate friction, my goal was always to bypass the roadblocks, educate consumers, and find genuine wins for clients when it felt like the larger system wasn't working for them.

For the past five years, I have worked alongside my father in our family real estate business right here in Durham. Working with my dad taught me that real community work means being present for people at all times, building lasting relationships, and actively listening to their needs—not just treating them like transactions.

Which leads me to now.

I see life getting harder for people in Pickering, even as they work harder. Our world has gotten bigger with social media, but people are lonelier and more frustrated than ever. Yelling through screens will only get us so far. We need to meet people where they are.

As your councillor, my focus is on rebuilding the municipal systems that serve us. City Hall should create mechanisms to elevate our neighborhoods, not build bureaucratic roadblocks.

It is possible. Municipalities across Ontario are successfully shifting from a model that simply "informs" residents to a model that empowers them. We can learn from what works, do it better, and let the diverse range of ideas in our community shine.
